Brooklyn Youth C.I.T. Program

The Brooklyn Youth Summer 2026 Counselor-in-Training program offers students the chance to learn the skills of being a counselor during our summer camp.

About the CIT Program

CIT Program Goals: 

→ Equip young people with the skills to be counselors in the future

→ Improve skills in working with people, understanding social-emotional learning processes 

→ Introduce young people to the joys and challenges of using materials for hands-on work

→ Give space to reflect on their experience and ready themselves for future employment

Logistics:

→ students work directly with the staff in an assistant role

→ students are expected to take on leadership roles with younger campers

→ students will design activities for students and co-facilitate them

→ students are responsible for self-directed learning at times

Requirements:

→ Prior good experience in the program

→ Parent approval 

→ Statement of interest

→ Interview (late June 2026)

Weekly Schedule: 

→ 9am-3pm daily, Monday-Thursday, July 6-30

→ select Saturdays in August (dates TBA, 12-4pm)  

→ once-per-week field trip in Brooklyn for added skill development

→ trainings T/Th (afternoon sessions on leadership to assess progress)

This is a summer opportunity for those between “camper” (grades 2-7) and “counselor” (grades 11 and up). 2026 is the first year we will offer this internship program at the community center at 653 Schenck Ave, Brooklyn, and we invite you to apply. The program is intended for students who have previously attended summer camp with us, and who envision themselves as counselors for this camp in the future. To be eligible, students must be entering grades 8-10 in fall 2026.
